The Truth About Credit Repair – What They Don’t Tell You

If you’ve ever tried to fix your credit, you’ve probably come across credit repair companies that promise to help—but drag out the process for months or even years. Why? Because they charge you every single month and make more money the longer it takes.

The truth is: Fixing your credit is not as hard as they make it seem. I improved my credit in just a few months, and you can too! The problem is, no one teaches us how credit really works, even though it’s one of the most powerful financial tools we have.

What You Were Never Taught About Credit

Most people don’t realize how simple credit improvement can be if you know what to look for. Here are some of the biggest credit myths and truths:

Keep your credit utilization under 30% – If you max out your credit cards, your score will drop even if you make payments on time. Aim to use less than 30% of your available credit to keep your score high.

🚫 Applying for too many credit cards hurts your score – Every time you apply for a new card, a hard inquiry is added to your report. Too many inquiries can lower your score, so be selective when applying.

You need all three types of credit:

  1. Revolving Credit – Credit cards that you can use and pay off each month.
  2. Installment Loans – Things like car loans or personal loans with set monthly payments.
  3. Mortgage or Auto Loans – Large loans that show long-term responsibility.

Having a mix of these three boosts your score, showing lenders you can manage different types of debt.

Cleaning Up Your Credit Report

Another thing credit repair companies won’t tell you is that you can remove inaccurate or outdated information yourself. Here’s how:

Remove old addresses – Your credit report should only have your current address to prevent errors and fraud.

Make sure all personal information matches – Your name, birthdate, and Social Security number should be consistent across all three credit reports.

Dispute errors and discrepancies – Get your credit report from all three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) and compare them. If you find inaccuracies, late payments, or accounts that don’t belong to you, you can dispute them and have them removed.

Negotiate settlements the right way – If you have past due accounts, don’t just pay them off without asking for a pay-for-delete agreement. This removes the negative mark from your report instead of just marking it as ‘paid.’

Credit Repair is Simple—But Time-Consuming
